Help homeless people in our community.

In 2011, we launched a major Paddlefest fundraising campaign to establish emergency accommodation for homeless young people and families in our area.  Both the Rotary Club of Toronto Sunrise and the Rotary Club of Toronto are contributing to this project and we are working closely with the Salvation Army.  Homelessness is an urgent, but often overlooked need

We need $250,000 to purchase a house in the Bolton Point area suitable for emergency accommodation, where people can also be helped with support, counselling and life skills.  Thanks to community generosity, we are well on the way to achieving this goal.

Our aim for Paddlefest in 2012 is to raise a further $40,000.  This would enable us to purchase the property by the end of 2012.

Paddlefest also supports…..

Over the last five years, Paddlefest has raised more than $50,000.  We have helped set up Sailability Lake Macquarie, so disabled people can get out on the water.  We’ve helped local mental health support groups, contributed to a new boat for the volunteer Marine Rescue Service and supported Lake Macquarie Landcare.  Local high schools participating in Paddlefest team building events have earned money for sporting equipment.

We also support the volunteer groups who help out on the day – SES and St Johns Ambulance.

We have contributed to the Victorian Bushfire Appeal and helped supply Shelter Boxes as emergency accommodation for earthquake, tsunami and flood victims around the world.
