Cockle Creek Explorer Tour

Jeff’s Explorer Tour

The Cockle Creek Discovery Tour is a leisurely paddle taking approximately forty minutes to explore the lower reaches and delta islands of Cockle Creek.

We stop at a number of strategic locations along the route to talk about the interesting history and ecological processes of the area.  This includes the establishment of Speers Point itself and the Lochend Coal Mine as well as the origins of Teralba from a farming station with a homestead located near the current Barnsley School.

We discuss the extent of the large catchment area that flows into Cockle Creek, resulting in approximately 44% of all sediments entering Lake Macquarie coming from this system.  This causes accelerated impacts on the natural creek and estuary systems which will be explored and explained.

A great informative paddle for individuals or families.
